SEAN GALL: Atmospheres and Mindscapes
• SEAN GALL: Atmospheres and Mindscapes, an exhibition of mixed media drawing/painting hybrids by the artist. Inspiration for the work has been culled from various sources: the ambient music of Brian Eno; organic and manmade structures including grids, freeways, clouds and fog; early computer drawings, circa 1980; the landscapes of the Hollywood hills and Connemara, Ireland. Using ink and acrylic on canvas, Gall creates abstracted landscapes and imaginary “mindscapes”, with repetitive hand-drawn lines that create a moiré-like effect. While hiking, the artist often photographs urban sprawl in relationship to the contours of nature. This dichotomy is expressed in subtly colored works that are soothing yet dazzling to observe.
