NOAH THOMAS: Formal Curiosities
•
Working with a variety of woods and veneers,
Thomas creates sculptures that relate to both landscape and architecture.
Informed by digital or virtual representations of space, Thomas utilizes the
edges of wood veneer and triangular grid structures to delineate his forms.
Organic, wood veneer objects function as fragments of a dramatic landscape.
These fragments are supported by geometric structures, alluding to the strength
and elegance of architectural design. The artist brings together nature and
human invention, creating works of strong visual contrast with remarkable
finesse and execution.
Phantom Galleries recently featured works by Noah Thomas in Pasadena. In addition
to sculptural work, Thomas creates installations and sound pieces, which have
been shown at the Irvine Fine Arts Center and the Long Beach Soundwalk. Thomas
received his M.F.A. in sculpture from California State University, Long Beach
and his B.A. in Piano Performance at Skidmore College. He lives and works
in Long Beach, CA.
